Quick answer: If you’re hurt at work in Virginia, get emergency care first if needed, then report the injury to your employer right away. Virginia employers must give injured workers a “panel” of at least three doctors from different practices, and you generally choose your treating doctor from that list. If your employer doesn’t provide a valid panel, you may be able to choose your own doctor. PACS Urgent Care accepts workers’ comp and treats common work injuries at both clinics.
Work injuries are stressful, and the paperwork can be confusing. This guide explains the basics. It isn’t legal advice. For questions about your claim, contact the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission or a workers’ compensation attorney.

Step 1: Get care
For serious injuries, call 911 or go to the ER. For cuts, sprains, back strain, minor burns and eye irritation, urgent care can treat you the same day. Tell the front desk it’s a work injury.
Step 2: Report the injury
Tell your supervisor in writing as soon as possible, including the date, time, location and how it happened. Delays can cause problems with your claim.
Step 3: Choose a doctor from the panel
In Virginia, employers must offer a panel of physicians:
- At least three doctors
- Each from a different medical practice
- You generally pick your treating doctor from this list
If your employer gives you no panel, or one that doesn’t meet these rules, you may be able to choose your own doctor. Ask your employer whether PACS is on its panel.
